Object Play and Body Movement Workshop

The body can move.

Swing your arms, tap your feet, bend at the waist, shrug your shoulders.

Objects can move.

They stretch and bounce and can be compressed.

Together, let’s find

those actions

that the body and objects can do

and create

an improvised dance performance.

This workshop begins with warm-up exercises and observation of objects. Based on interactions between the body and objects and through imitation, cooperation, and play, participants explore the body and objects and choreograph an improvised dance performance.

Notes |

※ Number of participants: 10 groups, each consisting of one adult and one child.

※ Special instructions: Participants must bring 3-5 objects that are soft, crunchy, strange, flexible, or otherwise interesting. These objects must be able to be exchanged without worry that they will be damaged.

Instructor|YU Ming-Chu

YU Ming-Chu goes by the nickname Little Pearl. She is a dancer, contact improvisation teacher, and puppet theater performer. She likes to take walks, sleep, talk to herself, and move her body. Moving her body and eating good food make her happy and she hopes that it stays that way. She does not desire a regular job but, rather, professional side jobs. She earnestly thinks of ways to keep learning as she gets older, but also understands the importance of taking time to rest.

Instructor| LO Wan-Yu

LO Wan-Yu is a graduate of the Department of Performing Arts at Shu Te University who is engaged in theater work. In recent years, she has created object-based and puppet theater works. From shapes, colors, and movements, she discovers roles for objects and creates paintings, mini sets, and theater works, as she preserves a childlike innocence and develops all types of possibilities for playing with objects. In addition, she seeks more and diverse possibilities for object-based or puppet show creations by applying abundant and diverse creative forms and media.
