本節目為劉奕伶策展之「So, What Are You Trying To Say?(所以你想要說什麼?)」

《所以你想要說什麼?》(So, What Are You Trying To Say?)

How I Longed to Be a Great Dancer

It began with a dancer who pursued a career on stage – and he became two comedians.

Two??

Me: How can one person become TWO?

ChatGPT: It’s possible.

If GPT says so, I’ll believe it.
After all, in Taiwan, AI apparently designs better than Aaron Nieh (^^).

So what happens when a dancer tries to become two comedians?
What if, instead of dancing, he just... keeps talking?

Me: Does a dancer who won't stop talking become a kind of comedy?

ChatGPT: Yes, and it might even be funnier than comedy on purpose.
If GPT says so, I’ll believe it.

And so, a performance of dance, stand-up, endless talking, and physical chaos is born.

Well…

Introducing the stand-up comedy group LeeYo&YoWei, starring its one and only member, Lee Yo Wei (who only started learning dance at sixteen).

Which raises a simple question:
What kind of sparks can fly between a dancer and an entire comedy group—when they're the same person?

They say it takes two to tango.
We'll raise you three.
Come and find out.

Performer: LeeYo&YoWei Feat. Lee Yo Wei

Lee Yo Wei started dancing at the age of sixteen. An unremarkable dancer with a knack for making a fool of himself onstage, his performances often looked less like dance and more like goofing around.

LeeYo&YoWei was born when he turned thirty-five. Inspired by a friend whose manzai performances were effortlessly brilliant, he decided to give comedy a try. The results have been... different. He's not quite a great manzai comedian—just an exceptionally strange one.

Curated by Liu I-Ling, So, What Are You Trying To Say? expands upon the questions first explored in her 2024 full-length work Turn Out. Bringing together five artists and collectives, the series investigates the fertile encounter between dance and comedy—two seemingly distinct performance languages that share an enduring desire to communicate what often resists expression.

On one side, dance employs the body to articulate ambiguity, sensation, and dialogues that transcend linguistic and cultural boundaries. On the other, comedy turns to language to expose hidden desires, uncomfortable truths, and the absurdities of everyday life, provoking both laughter and reflection. Rather than positioning these forms in opposition, the programme explores the unexpected resonance that emerges through their collision.

The title, So, What Are You Trying To Say?, speaks equally to the artist's persistent self-interrogation, the audience's attempt to listen beyond what is immediately legible, and the shared space where understanding remains open rather than complete. Through collaborations between choreographers and comedians, narratives, observations, emotions, and perspectives unfold across bodies and words, inviting audiences to inhabit a space where intimacy and openness coexist, and where imagination is free to move through the gaps left deliberately unresolved.
