Nini’ and her little secrets

Adapted from a German picture book Das Familienalbum, this is Taiwan’s first picture book on the subject of child molestation by someone familiar to them. In this performance, puppets are used to present a story in a way that helps children and adults face this difficult issue together.

Nini’ and Her Little Secrets lasts for around 35 minutes. A family of cute table-top puppet mice present a story, followed by an interactive Q & A session. This performance encourages children to become aware of their own physical boundaries and identify their comfort levels and emotions they don’t like. They also practice saying no and asking a trusted adult for help. It also calls attention to the need to protect children’s physical boundaries, and provides the opportunity for parents and children to learn together.

Performer: Slow Island Theatre Group

As its name suggests, Slow Island Theatre Group encourages a slower pace of life through art, providing audiences different perspectives on daily life. This theater company has long paid attention to and created works based on locality and issues, often performing in non-theater settings, such as on the street, so that people living in urban and non-urban areas can access the performing arts. In the future, this group will continue to collaborate with outstanding art workers from Taiwan and around the world to create experimental and interesting works. Since 2021, the Slow Island Theatre Group has been committed to calling attention to the issue of protecting children’s physical boundaries through performances and workshops.
